Learning & Discovery
As I begin to develop my new story, I realize I am well-served to connect with other writers that may see my tale differently than I do. So, off to Google I go and search for a local writers groups.
I have just relocated to the beautiful mountain area of Asheville, North Carolina so I am not yet connected to the community. When you reach out, you find others that will touch your shirt sleeve, share a cup of coffee, turn a book page with you and listen to your journey. I have found two writers' groups that are eager to embrace me and my story.
As I plan for the workshops these groups offer, I am reminded of the diversity of the area. As many male writers as women are in the groups. I spotted a few beards, long legged boot wearers, Woolrich weave blouses and brightly colored cloth book bags. I have married into a family of eclectic, highly intellectual, accomplished people. These are bright, talented, open minded individuals who just cherish the printed word. I am home!
As I was walking in our community recently, I came across a bed of flowers... some turning as summer introduced autumn. And, one blossom, bristly white, is holding on for the journey... just like me.
Back to the writing table as I will shortly be turning in a draft for my new friends to critique and help turn into my next published book. I will want to thank them now and later. After all, hospitality is important.
